Labrac's key art: a raccoon's masked face and the LABRAC title over an aisle of server racks at night

LABRAC

A data center went up across the creek and the water has run warm ever since. You are the raccoon who lives there. Belly slide down the cable trays, pull power cords in a tail grab, dive-kick the breakers, and keep it all one combo until the day shift comes in.

You are a raccoon, and a data center has gone up across the creek from your den. Since then the water has run warm, fish turned up belly up, and the glow over the campus has put out the stars. The campus is too big to start with. So you start with a dental office's network closet down the road and work your way across the county, one building a night.

You have from two in the morning until the day shift comes in at six. Ride the cable trays, swing from the cables hanging off the ceiling, run along the tops of the racks, and break whatever you land on. Chain one trick into the next and the combo keeps growing. Uptime starts at 99.999% and only goes down. Get it under the building's bar by six and the next building opens.

None of these buildings were in good shape before you got there. In the closet, both of the server's power supplies are plugged into the same power strip, and the backup has been writing empty files since March. The night staff fix what they can find. In the morning the company writes up what happened. It is calling it an animal-related event, which tested better than "pest problem."
