The Understudy Privacy Policy
The Understudy is a theater with an audience of one. This policy is short because we collect nothing at all.
What we collect
Nothing. The Understudy has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no servers of our own. The app makes no network calls. Its App Privacy label reads "Data Not Collected," and that is the whole architecture, not a setting.
Where your theater lives
- Your save - the state of the house, everything it has printed for you, and everything you have named - is stored only on your device (and in your device's own backups, which Apple or Google manage and we never see). On a computer it is a file in your own user folder; the Steam build does not use Steam Cloud.
- Offline progress is computed from your device's clock when you return. Nothing about your visits is reported to anyone.
- Deleting the app deletes the theater. There is no copy anywhere else to delete.
Purchases
On iPhone, iPad, and Mac, the Box Office sells its keepsakes and letters through Apple's In-App Purchase system. On Android it sells the same things through Google Play Billing. Either way the store processes the payment; we receive aggregate, anonymized sales reports and never see your payment details or identity. Restore Purchases is available at the Box Office window.
On Steam the game is bought once, at the door, and nothing inside it is for sale. Valve processes that purchase under its own privacy policy and we never see who made it. The game uses no Steam feature that identifies you and makes no network calls of its own.
Notifications
The app offers a single optional notification, off by default. It is scheduled locally on your device; no notification service of ours is involved, because we do not have one.
Children
The Understudy is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date. Because we hold none of your data, changes cannot affect data we've already collected - there isn't any.
